Lithographs

I had the opportunity to study traditional stone lithography in college and quickly fell in love with the feel of the stone and its ability to communicate the nuances of a drawn line. Maintaining a non-toxic home studio however, precluded the ability to create a litho studio. Searching for a non-toxic seemed futile until I came upon a weeklong workshop in Waterless lithography. Immediately intrigued, I attended and fell in love again. Although not a perfect substitute for stone or plate lithography, it possesses many of the same qualities. Additionally, I also incorporate the photo-litho process. Similar to my etchings, all images are hand drawn either on the plate (for waterless) or mylar (for photo-litho).

Etchings

My etchings are created using contemporary non-toxic methodologies. The images are hand drawn, most often using lithographic crayon on translucent mylar. The image is transferred onto an ImagOn (a light sensitive film) photopolymer plate via an exposure unit. Once processed in a soda ash bath, the plate acts exactly like a traditional etching plate.
