Shape Based…..a different way of thinking

I enjoy the graphic quality of silkscreen and the way this shape-based printmaking process encourages a different way of thinking about composition, color, and mark making. By using ink dispersions rather than traditional screen-printing inks, I can create subtle variations and transparent layers of color that have the delicacy and fluidity of watercolor. As I continue to explore ways of bringing a more painterly quality to my prints, I have also begun experimenting with silkscreen watercolor monoprinting. In this process, I draw or paint directly onto the screen, then pull a transparent base across the surface before transferring the image onto paper. The resulting marks are fluid, spontaneous, and somewhat unpredictable, offering a wonderful contrast to the more graphic qualities of traditional silkscreen.
