I use newer, non-toxic technologies (ImagOn plates) to create my etchings. I was first drawn to this technique as it had the ability to mimic the characteristics of a lithograph. It allowed me to draw my image using a lithographic crayon, which I loved. The image is drawn on mylar then transferred to the plate using an exposure unit. Once processed, the plate acts exactly like a traditional etching plate. The other advantage to this method is its diversity. A “mezzzo-type” process, using ImagOn, can mimic the qualities of a labor intensive Mezzotint.
