Etchings

A New Technology……..and a new beginning

My return to printmaking began with a workshop in ImagOn etching. I was initially drawn to this process because of its ability to capture some of the qualities I love about lithography. In particular, it allows me to work with a lithographic crayon, preserving the immediacy and expressive quality of the drawn line that is so important to my work.

I create my image on Mylar, which is then transferred to the ImagOn plate using an exposure unit. Once processed, the plate functions much like a traditional etching plate, allowing me to etch and print the image using familiar intaglio techniques.

One of the qualities I find most exciting about ImagOn is its versatility. It can be used to create a variety of surfaces and tonal effects, including a mezzotint-like process that can achieve the rich, velvety qualities of traditional mezzotint without the labor-intensive process of preparing a conventional mezzotint plate. This flexibility allows me to explore a broader range of marks, textures, and tonal possibilities within my work.
